Well, what a difference a year makes.

New job. Newer car. My stomach is fixed. Alberto Gonzales (is that the correct spelling? No, right, it's actually spelled N-A-Z-I) got fired, ok, his boss is still as stupid as a bag of dog poop, but hey....

My marriage is much better, thank G-d, my kids are all in school (except the little guy, home with strep today).

"Where there is no bread, there is no Torah."

Life continues to move along with only minor hiccups this week.

It may be that, with the High Holy Days approaching, The Man Upstairs is just waiting to lower the boom, but we can only pray that's not the case.

Ok, this is fairly dull; as I've said before, nobody reads this anyway, but it's nice to unload.

I'm glad nobody reads this.

I just need a place to dump. This is not the usual political stuff (if once every two years can be considered "usual").

My life is a country song.

My glasses broke. My computer monitor broke. My lawnmower broke. My marriage continues to be broke. We are broke. My career, while not exactly broke, has the brakes on. My stomach has been broke for about the past week, and I'm not getting any sympathy (not that I necessarily deserve it - I'm not doing much to fix that particular problem). The kids are good, but broke as usual. A while back, my car broke, but that's already ancient history. I still live with a low-level, background-noise sense of impending doom.

All I seem to have lately is faith. That's not really broke, and I still feel like I can say "gam zu latovah - this, too, is for the good." It's all just so exhausting.

Ok, thanks for listening.

Woo-hoo, the power of 'blogging!!

No sooner did I finish posting my most recent screed, than the aforementioned Secretary of State of Ohio tried to reverse course and ban all election challengers from polling places!

I would love to take credit for that change of heart, but I have a feeling that I am only one more unheard voice who happens to have spoken common sense - and that the Secretary of State has chosen to act with a certain degree of enlightened self-interest, and said enlightened self-interest happens to coincide with logic and intelligence, is a bit of serendipity.

Of course, one of the even more scurrilous pig-dog state officials, specifically the State Attorney General, has refused to back the Secretary of State and will not (as of this writing) present the latter's arguments to the court.

Why are Attorneys General such fascist scum these days?

The spectre of Florida 2000 still hovers ominously over the Buckeye (or will it be Blackeye, as in what we're gonna get from this election) State.

What scares me most about this election, other than the possibility of a lying, stupid doofus and his gang of thug henchmen being re-elected, is the opportunity for Election Challengers to disenfranchise voters here in Ohio.

The current adminstration feels that it needs Ohio to win; it cannot win Ohio without cheating; furthermore, their lackey (and statewide chairman of the party's re-election committee) is the Secretary of State of Ohio and therefore the state's chief election officer; ergo, the party of the administration has placed the Election Challengers in what have always been Democratic strongholds.

Why people cannot see this, and are willing to put up with it, makes me want to scream in horror. That the Secretary of State is able to so abuse his position should mean, I hope, that he will be through with public service at the earliest possible opportunity. There are, I am pleased to note, a few individuals who are trying to keep these people out of the polling places; we shall see if they are successful in their court challenges.

By the way, lest you make the flacid argument that "If you are a legitimate voter, you have nothing to worry about," be aware that this is not the goal of the Election Challenger. The Election Challenger is not there, really, to disenfranchise the legitimate voter (although that would be a bonus if said voter is a Democrat). The goal of the Election Challenger is to interfere with the process. The goal is to aggravate, and ultimately cause to leave in frustration, people who are waiting in line to vote while the challenges are going on. People in the affected areas have to pay babysitters, or have to work, or both - and have precious little time to vote as it is. Thus, if they are delayed ten minutes per voter by one estimate they will not stick around. That is the goal and the means of the Election Challenger. Again, for people to remain blind to this is incomprehensible.

I wish I knew how to fight this. As I mentioned, I am glad that there are people who do know, and are fighting it.

This just cracks me up, no pun intended:

Anyone who holds up Mr. Farrell as a role model has some serious issues with reality. A finer example of moral turpitude
and out-and-out degeneracy one would be hard-pressed to identify.

...and another thing...

What kind of subhuman clump of detritus attacks the war record of a triple amputee, veteran, bonafide hero?

How can anyone give the administration a free pass on that?

What is the matter with people?

RANT RANT RANT
I just don't understand. Are people blind, stupid, or what?

The present administration has attacked a country pre-emptively in order to ensure a free flow of oil to the pockets of the primary parties in the administration. Anyone who does not acknowledge this is in denial or a fool. Just because hard evidence has not been found does not preclude its existence, now or previously. Circumstantial evidence is overwhelming in this case and would put anyone else away for 900+ life sentences for murder.

Do you feel safer now than you did four years ago? Is the world safer than it was four years ago? Have we aggravated the terrorists enough yet? Have we poked them in the nose sufficiently to really make them mad yet? When will they get fed up and blow up, oh, I dunno, how about Akron? Or Indianapolis? Or Boston? How much more should we "stay the course," when the course is stupid?

The stupidity does not stop with foreign policy either. Is our economy better? Maybe if you were already rich, or a really big business. If you are Mr. or Mrs. Average Worker, not at all. Gee, productivity is up continually. That sure sounds great, except for the subtext: it means people are working longer hours for the same pay! That spiffy new laptop and PalmPhone are really cool - and they keep you chained to the office almost constantly. And you may have two or more of those offices to go to or scrub the floors of or whatever.

People should wake up. Something needs to be done.
